When You Realise Life Isn’t Happening To You, Everything Changes

Before I write this, let me say this clearly.

I love big milestones. I really do.

I love it when a client tells me they are sleeping better, feeling calmer, speaking up more confidently, or finally putting themselves back on the list after years of burnout, menopause fog, or emotional overload.

I love those moments.

But they are not my favourite result.

My favourite result is quieter. Subtler. And far more powerful.

It is the moment someone realises, often mid conversation or mid breath,

“This is BY me.”

Not in a blaming way.

Not in a harsh, pull yourself together way.

But in an awakening, grounding, deeply empowering way.

The shift that changes everything

Most people arrive feeling like life is happening to them.

Their mood feels hijacked by circumstances.

Their body feels unpredictable.

Their emotions feel overwhelming.

Their confidence feels dependent on other people or outcomes.

This is especially common during midlife, menopause, or after years of living in survival mode.

Nothing has gone wrong.

They have simply been creating unconsciously.

At The Key, we talk about this as non deliberate creation. Life shaped by habits, beliefs, emotional patterns, and nervous system responses that were never consciously chosen.

And then something changes.

Not all at once.

Not magically.

But clearly.

They begin to see how their thoughts, words, emotions, and attention are shaping their experience. They notice how often their energy is focused on what they do not want rather than what they do.

That is the moment.

The moment life stops feeling like a punishment and starts feeling like a conversation.

Why this awareness is the real milestone

Weight loss. Career changes. Health improvements. Relationship shifts.

All of those are wonderful.

But they are outcomes, not foundations.

The foundation is awareness.

Because without awareness, any change feels fragile. Temporary. Dependent on willpower or luck.

With awareness, something steadier appears.

Choice.

Once someone understands that they are creating their experience by whatever they give their energy, focus, and attention to, they stop trying to fix themselves and start relating to themselves differently.

They pause instead of react.

They notice instead of judge.

They reset instead of spiral.

And most importantly, they stop handing their power over to circumstances.

Why this matters during menopause and midlife

Menopause is often framed as something that happens to women.

The body betrays you.

Hormones wreck you.

Your confidence disappears.

And while the physical changes are real and deserve care and compassion, the emotional story around menopause often adds unnecessary suffering.

When a woman begins to understand her inner world, her nervous system, her emotional responses, and her energy, she regains agency.

Not control.

Agency.

She realises she can support her body rather than fight it.

She can nourish instead of punish.

She can rest without guilt.

She can speak honestly without fear of being too much.

This is where Heal, Nourish, Glow becomes lived rather than theoretical.

Healing the relationship with self.

Nourishing the body with intention rather than rules.

Glowing not because life is perfect, but because she is present.

The first proof is everything

There is nothing more empowering than the first lived proof.

The first time you calm your nervous system intentionally.

The first time you catch a negative spiral and gently reset it.

The first time you choose a response that feels aligned rather than automatic.

That moment does something profound.

It dissolves the belief that you are stuck.

Once you know you can shift your state once, you trust yourself more. You stop outsourcing your power. You stop waiting for permission or certainty.

You build from there.

This is why people who experience this shift often say things like:

“I feel steadier.”

“I trust myself more.”

“I’m not perfect, but I feel capable again.”

That is not motivation.

That is embodiment.

This is not about positive thinking

Let me be clear.

This work is not about pretending everything is fine.

It is not about bypassing pain or trauma.

It is not about blaming yourself for what you have been through.

Personal responsibility, in this context, is not fault.

It is power.

It is the understanding that while you did not choose everything that happened to you, you can choose how you relate to it now.

That choice changes everything.

A gentle reflection for you

If you are reading this, take a moment and ask yourself:

Where do I still feel life is happening to me?

Where do I give my energy to what I do not want?

What might shift if I brought awareness to that, without judgement?

There is no rush.

No fixing required.

Just noticing.

Because awareness is always the first key.

An invitation

If this resonates, I would genuinely love to hear from you.

Not in a private message.

Not in a polished response.

But right here.

Comment below and tell me:

What was your moment of realising “this is BY me”?

Or, if you are still on the edge of it, what are you beginning to notice?

Your awareness might be the permission someone else needs to start noticing too.
